Bath Iron Works is laying off 30 workers and will eventually eliminate a total of 160 positions in its engineering and support organizations in a move to become more “affordable” as the company puts it, with further reductions to come through retirements, transfers, resignations and canceled job postings.
BUT BIW says these cuts are not related to the recent loss of a ten and a half billion dollar contract to build Coast Guard cutters.
